Times are changing. So are the French. And, today more and more of them are keeping an open mind regarding the issue of personal data.

According to the survey carried out with L'Argus de l'Assurance, over 1 in 2 French people are willing to share the data collected by a connected object in exchange for a drop in the price of their health insurance. In the same vein, 45% of respondents say they are willing to share the data collected by a connected object in exchange for receiving preventive information on chronic diseases and in particular well-being advice and recommendations regarding nutrition and exercise. Proof that the French have clearly identified the benefits they could expect from this technology.

The French, more confident about sharing their data with their insurer rather than with GAFAM companies

One of the main lessons learnt from this survey conducted by Cegedim Insurance Solutions and Argus de l'Assurance is that the French are more confident about sharing their data with their insurer rather than with GAFAM companies.

Indeed, they find that the most trustworthy stakeholders in terms of sharing data collected by connected objects are the attending physicians (68%). Then come Social Security and hospitals with 35% and 32%, ahead of pharmacists and top-up health insurance providers with 25% and 24% respectively. GAFAM companies come last with only 2%, even though they are mentioned more by millennials (5%). Although these figures show a high level of confidence in the medical profession, they also demonstrate that, in the eyes of the French, top-up health insurance providers are a rather reliable third party, unlike GAFAM companies which crystallise fears related to the use of personal data. Proving that the subject is still highly sensitive, 14% of French people say they do not trust any of these stakeholders in terms of sharing this type of data.
